The United Nations is part of the United Nations system, which, in addition to the United Nations itself, includes many funds, programs and specialized agencies, each with its own field of work, leadership and budget. Programs and funds are funded through voluntary contributions and not through assessed contributions. The Specialized Agencies are independent international organizations funded by voluntary and assessed contributions. The United Nations coordinates its work with these separate entities of the United Nations system, which cooperate with the Organization to help it achieve its goals.
